Artist Statement

First of all let me just say I can’t not do art. It makes me cranky. My art has been with me my whole life. Maybe it was my way of carving out a niche in a family of three older brothers. I express myself through my art by painting from the heart. I create my own worlds, my own perspective. I want the viewers to come away seeing this world in a magical surreal way.

Growing up in the Midwest I never felt I belonged. My soul found its true home when we moved to Colorado Springs in 1996. I feel my spirit can soar here. The nature, legends and lore feed my creativity and make my colors sing!

In my artistic journey I try to keep myself open to ideas and get out of my own way to let the creative energy flow. One of my favorite quotes,” Art is the achievement of stillness in the midst of Chaos” by Saul Bellow. In quieting down the hectic chaotic life around us there is this stillness where creativity dwells. It is from this place that I create my art.

As I enter my fifth decade, in this body, on this planet I feel like I am shedding an old heavy overcoat that is worn and dusty and itches. I feel a freedom to create works of art that are full of a joyous spirit skipping across the canvas! I will leave the angst to be created by others. For me I will express the joy in my heart and create works of art that add lightness and joy to our lives.
